These videos explore the relationship between God and morality. Two introductory videos are followed by William Alston’s defense of a divine command theory that claims our moral obligations are founded in God’s commands. I review Bertrand Russell’s atheistic morality, and then Georg Mavrodes criticism of atheistic moralities like Russell’s. Mavrodes argues that moral obligations – such as you should not beat an innocent child (to choose an obvious one!) – do not make sense if God does not exist. See also the moral arguments for the existence of God.
